Eating junk food can indeed be harmful to health. But for men there are other hazards that can arise if too often eat junk food, which is to reduce the number of sperm possessed.
Junk food is food that has little nutritional value but usually has good taste. This food is high caloric value but only contains protein, vitamins and minerals that a bit. Examples of this are usually fried foods like fried foods, fries, burgers, chicken nuggets or a snack the kids.
A study conducted by fertility clinics in the U.S. found that men often eat junk food or fatty foods will produce less sperm count.
“These results are quite dramatic, is expected to further support for limiting consumption of saturated fat because it can lead to cardiovascular disease but also can make the sperm is reduced,” said lead researcher from Harvard Medical School in Boston, Professor Jill Attaman, as quoted from Mirror.co. uk.
In this study men were divided into 3 groups and differentiated fat intake is consumed. Found men who consumed high-fat has a number of 43 per cent fewer sperm and sperm concentration of 38 per cent lower.
While a group of men who have diets high in omega-3 fatty acids found in fish and vegetable oils can actually help improve the quality of sperm. The results of this study are reported in the journal Human Reproduction.
Low sperm counts and low concentrations can affect fertility and later owned an impact on its ability to produce offspring or children.
It is estimated about 20 percent of young men have poor semen quality and fertility of couples who come to clinics for IVF about 30-50 percent due to fertility problems in men.
“There are several ways you can do to improve the quality of sperm for men such as eating healthy foods, quitting smoking and if you are overweight should try to have a normal body mass index,” said Dr Allan Pacey, senior lecturer in andrology at the University of Sheffield .
