Human Has Never Won Against Germs
Armed with knowledge, humans can only cure the diseases caused by bacterial infection. However, the global human can never eradicate the bacteria because it would always appear new types of germs.
Flu virus for example, from time to time, always bring a new virus to mutate so as bird flu and swine flu. Meanwhile, various types of bacteria begin to form immunity to many antibiotics so it does not work anymore treated.
Although research to discover new antibiotics are always carried out, the emergence of new germs, and includes viruses, bacteria or other microorganisms can never be avoided. Until whenever human beings will continue to live side by side with germs.
“We’ll never win the battle. Man must live in harmony with the germs,” said Secretary General of the Association of Infection Control Indionesia (Perdalin), Dr Latre Buntaran, Sp-MK in Jakarta on Friday (12/11/2010).
Dr Latre who is also a clinical microbiology consultant at the Harapan Kita Hospital said that most humans can do is control the germs. Because according to him, everyone basically has the germ in her body but not forever going to be a disease.
“There are 2 things that determine the bacteria will be a disease or not. The first number, then the second is the condition of one’s endurance,” he added.
The human body has a certain tolerance so that germs can enter without causing disease as long as the durability is good. If the number of germs that enter through the boundary that can be tolerated, then the germs that would be a disease.
Over the limit was not exceeded, the entry of germs actually beneficial because the body will make antibodies or immunity to these germs. The more diverse types of germs that enter, the more immune owned by somebody.
“As long as its durability is good, sometimes carelessly by the roadside snack that’s okay because the entry of germs can actually be a natural vaccination,” said Chairman Perdalin, Prof Dr Djoko Wibowo, DTM & H, SpPD-KPTI.
