Berberine has also been shown to kill various types of germs in a test tube, like that which causes candidiasis (fungus) and parasitic infections such as tapeworms and Giardia. Berberine can also activate white blood cells, making more effective for fighting infection and strengthening the immune system. Berberine is sometimes used as an antibiotic and disinfectant, both externally and internally.
