Hazard Warnings On Cigarette Packs More Frightening America
The federal government in the United States will launch a new regulation concerning pictorial health warnings are more daring and frightening in cigarette packaging and advertising.The proposed new regulation represents the biggest change in tobacco health warnings in the last 25 years.
“Warning This warning is illustrated including 9 new larger, more visible textual and graphics that illustrate the consequences of the health hazards of smoking,” wrote the United States Department of Health in the broadcast, reported by CNN on Saturday (13/11/2010).
The release also stated that the public will have the opportunity to weigh and choose 36 images proposed future until January 9, 2011.
Assuming the plan is moving forward on schedule, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will choose 9 warnings and images that will be implemented no later than December 22, 2011.Rules of the use of pictures and this new warning will apply to all cigarettes distributed for sale in the United States and will take effect on October 22, 2012.
“FDA took an important step to reduce a large number of illnesses and deaths caused by tobacco use by proposing a radical change in appearance cigarette packs and advertisements in this country,” said FDA Commissioner, Margaret Hamburg.
According to Hamburg, when this rule applies, the health risks of smoking will be obvious each man took a pack of cigarettes. “This is an example of how the new responsibilities for FDA regulation of tobacco products that can benefit public health,” said Hamburg.
According to Mathew L. Myers, president of Tobacco-Free Kids Campaign, the proposed new rules is the most significant change in the U.S. cigarette warnings. “It is time Canada even has the same label since at least the last 5 years .The label is very effective in reducing cigarette consumption,” says Richard Daynard, of the Anti-tobacco advocacy.
