1. Doctors stated in a hospital birth is safer
Although the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) supports a woman’s right to choose the desired type of birth experience, the organization said that hospitals and birthing centers are the safest place to birth. According to ACOG statement in 2011, the planned birth at home was associated with increased risk of neonatal death 2 to 3 times higher than the planned birth in hospital. Health organizations such as WHO, the American College of Nurse-Midwives and the American Public Health Association supports the choice of birth at home but for low-risk women.
2. Home births associated with an increased risk of death
An analysis in 2010 found that babies born at home have an increased risk of death during the first 2 times greater than babies born at the hospital. Researchers found that 0.2 percent of babies born at home died between one week and one month after birth, compared to births in hospitals that only 0.09 percent.
