Body Odor Nature

People who are anxious will sweat more so modify the bacteria in the armpit that makes the body smell more odor. People who have the soul of a leader because of the high nature of dominance will release the hormone testosterone more so that the smell is more typical. Meanwhile, people who open seldom have a strong odor because her emotions tend to be stable.

Knowing the character’s personality usually takes a long time and a little conversation. However new fieldwork demonstrate a person’s personality can be known only through his body odor only.

The study, published in European Journal of Personality is assessing how friendly, anxious or dominant person just from the smell of his clothes. This study is the first time to test personality traits through the body odor.

“We do not only express themselves through appearance, but also through our smell. On first impressions, we often take into account a person’s smell and sound as visual cues that characterize his personality,” said the researcher, Agnieszka Sorokowska, doctoral candidate at the University of Wroclaw, Poland.

Sorokowska and colleagues asked 30 men and 30 women to wear white cotton shirts for three nights in a row. Participants are not allowed to use perfume, deodorant, or soap, and should not smoke, drink, eat or smell food during the study. Participants also take a test of personality.

Shirt of the odor donor was collected and assessed by 100 men and 100 women. The raters were asked to smell T-shirts are placed in non-transparent plastic bags and evaluate the personality of the wearer five shirts on a scale of 1 to 10. Each assessor assessed six shirts, and shirts each rater rated by 20 people.

Assessments are categorized on three personality traits: extroversion (the tendency to make friends and socialize), neuroticism (tendency to feel anxious and moody), and dominance (the desire to be a leader).

Matching is indeed far from perfect. But assessors predict the level of extroversion and neuroticism shirt wearer through exactly the same smell as participants in different studies that predict a person’s personality traits based on a video that describes the behavior of people.

“Assessment of dominance of the most accurate character in cases where the evaluators to assess the smell of the opposite sex. It seems that such an assessment is very important to choose a partner,” said Sorokowska as reported by FoxNews.com.

Extroversion, neuroticism, and dominance is a trait that can be physiologically expressed to some extent, including through the emotions. For example, neurotic people can sweat more when subjected to stress, thereby modifying the bacteria in the armpits and make them have a different smell.

Personality traits can also be connected with the expenditure of hormones that can change the scent of someone. People who are high levels of dominance may have higher testosterone levels, which in turn can modify the sweat glands.
