The federal government in the United States launched a new regulation concerningpictorial health warnings are more daring and frightening on cigarette packs andadvertisements. 9th pictorial warnings on cigarette packs has been launched.

Nine pictorial warning labels on cigarette packs has been inaugurated by the Food and Drug Administration. The nine new pictorial warnings appear larger, more legible andgraphically depicting the consequences of the health hazards of smoking.

“With this warning, any person who takes a pack of cigarettes will know exactly what risks you can take,” Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of Health and Community Services,as reported by CNN.

Sebelius says smoking and other tobacco use is the number one cause of death can beprevented in the United States. He claimed cigarettes have caused the death of morethan 440,000 people per year.

American cigarette packs will now display the new colors and vivid images with onewarning of the dangers of smoking, namely:

Pictorial warning labels is planned to be there on cigarette packs in September 2012 and will cover the top of the pack of cigarettes, on both sides of the front and rear. At least 50 percent of cigarette packs must be covered with these spooky images.

In addition, warnings must cover at least 20 percent of cigarette advertising. Smalladvertisements of less than 12 inches (30 cm) does not require coverage of 20 percent,but still must have a warning.

Each memorial will also have a phone number 1-800-QUIT-NOW so smokers can callfor assistance if they want to quit smoking.
