Indonesia,Milk is the main nutritional source of nutrition for infants of white liquid before they can digest solid food. but consumption is not milk formula from year to year increase. This is a concern to many countries especially in Asia, so there is a call together to stop the promotion of breastmilk substitutes.

Increased consumption of milk substitute formula BMS (ASI) also occurred in Indonesia. Demographic and Health Survey in Indonesia (IDHS) suggested the use of formula milk increased from 15 percent in 2003/2004 to 30 percent in 2007.

This condition is not much different from other countries in Asia. Lack of support for breastfeeding both in normal conditions and during disasters require joint appeal to end the food and drink promotion of breastmilk substitutes.

Therefore, not around 100 delegates representing 18 countries in Asia have agreed to conduct joint appeal made during a forum held between December 9 to 11 November 2010.

“To protect the infant through breastfeeding, we need to bridge the gap between policy and programs,” said Dr Arun Gupta of the Regional Coordinator of the International Baby Food Action Network (IBFAN).

The forum participants also agreed to share the status of nursing in their respective countries, and share information about current forms of violation of an international code of marketing of breastmilk substitutes.
