18 Countries Ask For Promotion Of Milk Substitutes Discontinued Ation

Increased consumption of milk substitute formula BMS (ASI) also occurred in Indonesia. Demographic and Health Survey in Indonesia (IDHS) suggested the use of formula milk increased from 15 percent in 2003/2004 to 30 percent in 2007.

“To protect the infant through breastfeeding, we need to bridge the gap between policy and programs,” said Dr Arun Gupta of the Regional Coordinator of the International Baby Food Action Network (IBFAN).

The forum participants also agreed to share the status of nursing in their respective countries, and share information about current forms of violation of an international code of marketing of breastmilk substitutes.
